This is Jack

Jack is a very special boy from Margaret Roser's breeding....

Meeting Margaret was the beginning of a love affair with Margaret, Bob and their dogs. Little did I know I was making friends with someone who would change my life in many ways.

Margaret had been a professional handler for many, many years and had 12 Boston Terriers, one Brussels Griffon and a French Bulldog in her kennel. I prided myself on eventually learning all their names and could never visit with out holding at least 6 of them. Margaret encouraged me to get a show Boston Terrier, seeing how she was mentoring me to help her with her handling of them at shows. I wasn't sure if I wanted another dog. Margaret told me she was going to breed one of her bitches that I had fallen in love with, "Margie".

All of her Boston’s had great personalities and I knew I would be pleased with any puppy I got. I asked if I could be put on the waiting list for one of Margie’s puppies.

Margaret continued to groom me for showing and then Margie was ready to have her puppies. One of the happiest days was when Margaret said I could have a show male puppy from Margie's litter. I was ecstatic to put it mildly. The puppies were born July 24th and three days later I knew which one I was getting. He is a brindle with the sweetest personality. I went over to the Roser’s twice a week to bond with him and he would sit in my hand and talk to me. During this time it became evident that my puppy was turning out to be quite the show dog and very special to all who met him. He would sing to Margaret and that brought her such joy.

Then the day came when I was going to take him home. I took 3 days of work so I could spend his first 5 days home with him. When I arrived to pick him up, Margaret wasn’t sure if she wanted to give him up, she actually ran from the room with me chasing her. Well I finally caught her, I ran faster than she could. I’m positive that if Margaret had any reservations about me I would not have gotten him.

From the start Jack was easy to train and a great joy to have in my home. At ten weeks he was stacking quite naturally. He was 16 weeks old and I still was agonizing over a name for him. I finally decided on Jack, after my favorite actor Jack Lemmon who had passed away that May. Jack's registered name, Apogee's Some Like It Hot, is my favorite Jack Lemmon movie.

Margaret Roser passed away in January of 2002 and did not get to see me show and finish Jack when he was just 10 months of age. I remember her giving me a crash course on grooming for the ring just before she died. Jack finished his championship at a specialty show that was dedicated to the memory of Margaret Roser. Yes, Jack has turned into the dog that Margaret saw in that small bundle of fur and I am so proud that she let me have him. In my heart of hearts I know that she is looking down on us. Every once in awhile I feel a hand slap me on the back of my head when I'm in the ring and know that Margaret is still trying to get me to do it right. Jack and I will always be grateful for her friendship and her confidence in us.
